Two days after the state government ordered closure of illegal abattoirs, the East Singhbhum district administration today served notice to 69 slaughter houses operating illegally in Dalbhum sub-division, official sources said.

Altogether we have identified 72 illegal slaughter houses and sale points in the sub-division and notices have already been served 69 of them by 6 pm today, said Sub-Divisional Officer Manoj Kumar.

The process of identifying such abattoirs was still on, he said.

The Jharkhand government on Monday had ordered closure of illegal abattoirs within 72 hours.

The step was taken keeping in view the overall public order, safety and health of the general public, an official release had stated in Ranchi.

Principal Secretary (Home) S K G Rahate had written to all deputy commissioners, senior superintendents of police, superintendents of police, municipalities and notified area committees to take steps for closure of illegal abattoirs.
