Admissions 2015 : FYJC online admission process to start tomorrow

The first-year Junior College (FYJC) online admission process will start from tomorrow since two boards have declared their Std X results, and here's what you need to keep on mind while applying to colleges: Do not include the marks of the optional subjects'; read the instructions carefully; and submit the correct documents.

The tips came from students gave who have gone through the FYJC online admission process in the past.

Most of the students fill their FYJC online admission forms from cyber cafes and some do it from home. Many from the later category have landed in trouble for not filling the forms correctly.

dna speaks with past students to know their experience and what precautions one can take while filling up the forms online to take admissions in the state junior colleges.

Mansi Arora, who appeared for her HSC exams this year and topped in her ICSE Std X exam in the past, said, "One has to remember that the admissions in the state junior colleges is not given on the basis of the optional subject's marks. One has to exclude the optional subjects while inserting the percentage. Also, read the instructions laid down in the handbook carefully and submit the correct documents."

Echoing the sentiments of Arora, Mallika Eapen, now an engineer who was a student when the FYJC online admissions had just started, said, "I remember that while filing the online admission form, one has to be careful while choosing the college code numbers. Some colleges have the same names and that can create a lot of chaos in my time while filling out the form. Hence, check the college's names and their addresses, so that one does not get the wrong college."

This year, there are 49 new colleges that have been added to the list on the website of the FYJC online admissions. One can view the website on http://fyjc.org.in/mumbai/StaticPages/HomePage_main.aspx?tms=1

What you need to know:
Five important points for students applying online for FYJC admission:

Applicants are advised to make a careful selection of junior colleges while filing their order of preferences, as the fee structure for aided and unaided divisions in the same junior college is different. They are further advised to be careful about the medium of instruction.

There will be three merit lists, prepared solely on the basis of merit

Applicants are required to give their preferences of colleges in three parts, as described on the website

Applicants residing within Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), passing Std X from Maharashtra SSC Board, and applying through open merit category, can submit their applications online from home, school or anywhere.

Applicants residing within MMR, passing std X from Maharashtra SSC Board and claiming reservations are required to submit their applications online through the heads of their respective schools.

Quota in minority and non-minority institutions for Greater Mumbai, Thane and Raigad:
Minority quota in Minority institutions: 50%
Minority quota in non-minority institutions: nil
Management quota in minority institution: 5%
Management quota in Non-minority institutions: 5%
In-house quota in minority institutions: 20%
In-house quota in non-minority institutions: 20%

2014 cut-off for South Zone colleges:
Xavier's: Arts (93%), Science (91.2), Commerce (NA)
HR: Arts (NA), Science (NA), Commerce (91.8%)
KC: Arts (80.6%), Science (87.8%), Commerce (89.6%)
Jai Hind: Arts (86.4%), Science (88%), Commerce (90%)
