The Bhopal-Ujjain train blast was a 'war in support of ISIS in India' conducted by IS-influenced youths who were unable to exit the country and migrate to Iraq and Syria.

According to a Times of India report, emir Atif Muzzafar formed a 'core' group in February 2016 in Kanpur, post which he along with a few other youths visited various borders in the country and contacted immigration agents across cities exploring options to escape to Pakistan.

They had reportedly planned to get training in Pakistan and then subsequently move to join ISIS.

During the period of February 2016 to January 2017, Atif along with Mohammad Danish and Mohammad Faisal Khan travelled to Srinagar in attempt to to get in touch with members of terrorist outfits. After that they went to Amritsar to secure a Pakistani visa, but it all went into vain.

Their efforts to illegally cross Wagah border and find some lead in Jaisalmer also did not yield any results, said a report.

However, dejected Atif's accomplice returned to Kanpur. But, Atif headed to Mumbai to try to get an employment visa for Saudi Arabia through a placement agency. But when he failed to get Visa, Atif returned to Kanpur in March 2016.

A few months later, Atif travelled to Kolkata with an ex-IAF personnel Gaush Mohammad Khan in attempt to get an entry into Bangladesh.

Atif, Saifullah and Danish's last attempt before the blast and encounter was to meet an IS contact in Kozhikode in January. Finally, in July, Atif along with eight others took oath of allegiance to ISIS, where they planned railway sabotage. Gaush, suspected to be an ISI mole, advised them on derailment.

Mohammad Danish (27), Mohammad Atif Muzaffar (22) from Kanpur, and Sayed Meer Husain (19) from Kannauj district were arrested from Hoshangabad district in Madhya Pradesh in connection with the blast that took place in the passenger train near Jabdi station of Shajapur district in Madhya Pradesh on March 7.
