Firebrand police officer D Roopa Moudgil, who shot into the limelight with her report on alleged preferential treatment to former AIADMK chief Sasikala in jail on Saturday heaped  praise on BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy.

"The versatile person without whose complaint, probably, the lady (who enjoyed perks and privileges in Bengaluru prison as exposed by me) wouldn't have landed in prison in the first place. Sir, u inspire!," D Roopa said in a tweet along with a selfie.

In another tweet, she said that his activism against corruption and black money should be inspiring even for his enemies.

In her four-page report, she had also alleged that a special kitchen was functioning in the jail for Sasikala, where she was lodged since February 15, 2017 to serve her sentence.

She was later transferred along with HN Sathyanarayana Rao, the then DGP (Prisons).

This led SC advocate Karuna Nundy to accuse her of ‘admiring’ a ‘deeply divisive political figure’. She wrote: “Deeply disappointing to see D. Roopa tweet admiration about a divisive political figure who's not even in government.”

This led D Roopa to defend her stance as she tweeted: “When u see bias in a harmless genuine tweet wherein there was a minimal common factor(prison connection), that's when u are pushing the tweeter to embrace one extreme against the other That's why twitterati are extremely divided. I see good things even in enemies n emulate.”

In 1996, Subramanian Swamy, the erstwhile Janata Party chief, had filed a case against Jayalalithaa alleging that during her tenure as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister from 1991 to 1996, she amassed properties worth Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate to her known sources of income. In 1997, the prosecution had launched against Jayalalithaa, her close friend Sasikala and two others in a Chennai Court in DA case. The Supreme Court, In February 2017, convicted Sasikala and her two relatives, VN Sudhakaran and Elavarasi by restoring the trial court verdict in toto directing them to serve the remaining jail term.

Moudgil first came into the limelight when as Dharwad SP she arrested the then Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti after rushing to Bhopal with her team.

Bharti was arrested in connection with a 10-year-old non-bailable criminal case in which she was accused of hoisting the national flag at Dharwad's communally sensitive  Idgah Maidan on Independence Day.

Moudgil's report as DIG(Prisons) laying bare alleged irregularities in the Parapana Agrahara Central Jail, including preferential treatment to Sasikala, had stirred a hornet's nest.

Sasikala is in jail serving her four-year-term in a disproportionate assets case.
