Political controversy has erupted over 1984-Sikh riots accused Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler attending the Congress protest meet in New Delhi. While the Congress high command ensured that both of them were escorted out of the venue shortly after they reached there, it didn't stop their political adversaries from taking potshots at them.

Union Minister and SAD leader Harsimrat Badal tweeted, "What we are seeing in Rajghat is no fast, it is only a FARCE! Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar, who butchered thousands of Sikhs in 1984 attending a farcical “fast” for unity and harmony! What a joke!"

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra in press conference said that Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar being escorted out of Rajghat showed 'acceptance of guilt'. He also called the fast a 'farce'.  He dubbed Congress 'Danga-Master' (masters of riots).

He asked whether Rahul Gandhi had forsaken food when Dalits were attacked in Mirchpur and Gohana. He also raked up Rajiv Gandhi's alleged comment about 'ground shaking after big tree falling',post the anti-Sikh riots in 1984.

Patra also accused Congress of not respecting Babasaheb Ambedkar and his legacy.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi is leading a protest at the Raj Ghat in New Delhi as part of a nationwide "fast" of the party to protest against the Narendra Modi government and non-functioning of Parliament. Congress workers are holding a day-long fast at all state and district headquarters to protest against the BJP government and promote communal harmony and peace across the country.

In the national capital, Gandhi along with Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken and party workers are protesting against the government and its failure to hold discussion in Parliament on key issues such as the CBSE paper leak, the multi-crore PNB scam, Cauvery issue and Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh.

The Congress will also take up issues related to alleged dilution of the SC/ST Act, farm distress and disillusionment among the youth. The BJP has also announced that its MPs will observe a fast on April 12 to protest the impasse in Parliament.
