Abu Salem hit-man arrested; says he 'fired at Rakesh Roshan'

Jaan Usman Khan alias Reenu, Abu Salem's alleged sharp shooter who was arrested by the Delhi police reportedly confessed that he was among the assailants who shot at Rakesh Roshan following orders from Salem in 2001, an English daily reports. The report also quotes Delhi DCP (crime) saying that Khan was also making extortion calls to singer Daler Mehndi.

Roshan was shot by two armed men outside his Santacruz office in 2001. He was rushed to the hospital by his driver thereby saving his life. 

Khan was arrested for several cases of fake currency, murder and extortion in Delhi and Mumbai. 

A country-made pistol and three cartridges were recovered from him during the arrest. He was earlier arrested in 2000 by the Bandra Police in Mumbai in an extortion case of Bollywood producer Anil Thadani, who is the husband of actress Raveena Tandon, police said.

"He was living here in Tri Nagar area of Sarai Rohilla in north Delhi. He has contacts in the underworld and has been a shooter for underworld don Abu Salem. He is involved in cases of fake currency, extortion, murder in Delhi and Mumbai," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.

Salem was later arrested in this case in 2006. Usman Khan was also arrested in 2010 in Vikas Puri when he along with Vinod Pandit had fired on Hemant Birje, a big financer.
