A day after TMC MP and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, was injured in a road mishap, a team of forensic experts on Wednesday visited the accident site near Singur on National Highway 2.

The team collected broken glasses, examined the paints on the surface of the truck with which Abhishek Banerjee's car collided while returning to Kolkata after a public meeting in Murshidabad district. Police today registered attempt to murder and conspiracy case against unknown persons in connection with the mishap involving Banerjee, the All India Trinamool Youth Congress president. Sections under the Highways Act were also added in the case, a senior officer of the CID said.

Though nobody was detained in the incident, a few persons, mainly eyewitnesses, were today questioned by the CID, the officer said. Sources in the CID said reconstruction of the entire incident would be done to evaluate "who was responsible for the mishap".

The Chief Minister visited the nursing home, where Abhishek is under going treatment, towards the afternoon. Senior party leader Manas Bhuniya, who recently joined the TMC from the Congress was accompanying Abhishek, said that his own vehicle was behind the TMC MP's convoy.
