PM Modi trades guns on Gandhis.
PM Modi in an election rally in Sumerpur in Rajasthan continued to attack the Gandhi family on several fronts. Hailing the SC order which gave IT department a go-ahead to reopen the tax assessment of Congress President Rahul Gandhi, his mother Sonia Gandhi, and senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandez for the year 2011-12, PM Modi said that he will see how they manage to escape now. However, any order against them will not be implemented till the court decides on the appeals filed by the Gandhis.
PM Modi said in Rajasthan, "Yesterday we won in Supreme Court, the court said Indian Govt has the right to reasses their(Sonia and Rahul Gandhi) income tax returns. Ab dekhta hoon kaise bach ke nikalte ho."
The three Congress leaders were asked by the I-T department to explain why their income for the year 2011-12 did not disclose the acquisition of shares in Associated Journals Limited (AJL) – the holding company of National Herald. This order was challenged by the trio before the Delhi High Court which dismissed the petitions on September 10, 2018 following which the matter reached Supreme Court. The bench of Justices AK Sikri, Ashok Bhushan, and S Abdul Nazeer told the lawyers appearing for the Congress leaders and I-T department that the hearing cannot conclude before the court breaks for winter vacation. As the assessment is to be done before December 31, the I-T department sought permission to proceed with the re-assessment.
Senior advocates P Chidambaram and Kapil Sibal, appearing for the Gandhis, suggested that while the assessment could proceed, the order cannot be implemented till the issue is pending before this court. The bench agreed and directed the assessment order to be passed, but not to be given effect to. The matter will now be taken up on January 8.
Regarding Christian Michel's extradition from Dubai, Modi in a cryptic note said, "Helicopter kaand ke raazdar aur dalal ko sarkar Dubai se pakad ke layi hai. Ab raazdar raaz kholega, pata nahi baat kahan tak jayegi, kitni duur tak jayegi". He essentially said that government has got the middleman extradited. Now, he will be spilling out secrets and we will see how far the matter goes.
Regarding Rahul Gandhi's faux pas of saying Kumbhakarn Yojna, Modi said, "He did not even know the name of a very popular farmer and jat leader in Congress, late Kumbharam ji. He called him 'Kumbhakaran'. You can imagine what such people will do when in power".
He also said Congress should give account of their 70 years and then ask for what the Centre has done in last 4.5 years. Modi said, "ongress which created so many divisions in society in the last 70 years, how can they work in the interest of the people? First, give an account of these 70 years, then ask about 4.5 years from us".
Regarding Congress allegations about EVMs, Modi said,"They have already started making excuses, they are trying to find any possible logic so the responsibility of defeat does not lie on naamdar's shoulders.
