The long buried Jan Lokpal bill might witness a resurgence as the Delhi government is speculating to table the bill during  the summer session of the state assembly. The Jan Lokpal bill which became the flash point and eventually the cause for AAP quitting the coalition government on the 49th day of its formation, had failed to find a space in the emerging discourses of the current government.

Sources within the party said that the party is contemplating to table the bill as both Lokpal and Swaraj bill top the list of 70-point action plan of the AAP government. A senior party official confirmed that the bill in all likelihood 'will be introduced in the next Delhi assembly session'.

"The Swaraj bill might take a little more time but the Lokpal bill will be introduced in all its likelihood in the next budget session," the official said.

The disclosure was made to dna a day before the AAP government completes its 49 days, a number intertwined with the party's history. Last year the previous AAP led government quit the coalition on the 49th day of its formation after the same bill was not accepted in the state assembly.

While campaigning for the recent assembly, which AAP won with an overwhelming majority, the Lokpal bill was put on a back burner. However this might change soon.

Opposition and observers both now believe that the move might be taken owing to all the negative publicity the party has garnered over the last month. Senior Congress leader Mukesh Sharma accused the government of misleading the people of Delhi.

"There is no work being done at the grassroots level. The subsides on power and water are not sufficient in fact the previous government had more in offering when compared to the current one," Sharma said.

"The announcements are a tool with which AAP is trying to divert the public's attention from the internal fights that has rocked the party," Sharma added. An official source in the party while speaking to dna  acknowledged that while Jan Lokpal bill is yet to take centre stage but it still tops in the list of priorities for the government.

"AAP had promised the citizens of Delhi a lot of things and we have been delivering on those fronts. Be it slashing of electricity prices or free water, the current government has showed how things can be done when there is a will to do it," the source said.

"Undoubtedly the Jan Lokpal will be introduced. The party is deciding the appropriate time to table Lokpal. Till then we will continue to work out the 70-point action plan," the source added.
