Aam Aadmi Party has suspended its Punjab MPs Dharamavira Gandhi and Harinder Singh Khalsa for anti-party activities.
The party’s Political Affairs Committee suspended the MPs and has referred disciplinary proceedings against them to the National Disciplinary Action Committee.
Gandhi is an MP from Patiala constituency and Khalsa is from Fatehgarh Sahib constituency in Punjab.
Punjab AAP convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur has said that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had instructed the ousting of the two MPs, reports The Hindustan Times. He said that both the MPs had carried out a parallel rally in Baba Bakala near Amritsar despite the party's warnings to not do so. The party had told them that it would amount anti-party activities.
He added that the they were open critically of the central and state leadership of the party even after being asked not to do so. "The central leadership has issued a show-cause notice to both of them to explain why strict disciplinary action should not be taken against them for openly going against the party leadership,” Chhotepur said.
Speaking to ANI, AAP leader Sanjay Singh said, "These MPs were talking against party for a while now and weakening our fight against the issues of the state. Going by their anti party activities, the decision to suspend them was made."
AAP rebel leader Prashant Bhushan said, "The MPs who have been suspended are very honest, maybe that is why they have been suspended. Seems like there is no space of honesty in AAP. Forget criticism, I think Arvind Kejriwal can't tolerate anyone talking about values."
"This shows AAP leadership's fear of leaders who have the courage to speak the truth. All that matters to them is the Delhi durbar," said another AAP rebel Yogendra Yadav.
