Anti-corruption helpline number–1031 launched by Delhi government has been getting calls from people complaining about things like– neighbours making noise to illegal construction in the locality. The facilitators say they are finding it difficult to make people understand that the helpline is solely dedicated to complaints related to corruption.

Seeing the surge of personal grievance calls, there are voices within the AAP government to establish a full fledged grievance department, thus replacing the already existing grievance cell which is headed by the chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The anti-corruption helpline has already received more than 26,000 calls, since its relaunch on April 5. The data provided by concerned officials show that 59 complaints have been marked to the
anti-corruption branch so far for investigation and further action, following scrutiny by the trained and authorised facilitators.

"We already have a mechanism in place to segregate frivolous calls from real ones but some of the calls cannot be termed frivolous. The reason being that the callers have genuine grievances but do not know which department to call," said Nagendra Sharma, government spokesperson.

He added that the government will get a clear picture of the nature and content of calls within a week, but, there are already strong opinions to establish a department that would address grievances. The department would concentrate to direct the complaints to the appropriate department and better interaction between the people and government agencies.

Another set of callers just made to call to the said helpline to ensure if the re-launched helpline is actually functional.
