After the BJP-led government at the Centre came up with an ordinance to regularise nearly 900 unauthourised colonies in Delhi, AAP has proposed to confer free-hold rights of land in resettlement colonies. The party will hold its sixth phase of the ongoing 'Delhi Dialogue' on the issue of resettlement tomorrow at Trilokpuri in east Delhi and elaborate the party's stand on the matter.

In the next round of Delhi Dialogue, AAP plans to identify the problems of resettlement colonies and confer free-hold rights to resettlement colonies.

"Land reform is one of the prime problems of resettlement colonies of Delhi and the AAP will ensure that it solves their problems once and for all. Properties were allotted long back and many of the original allottees have expired and their legal heirs are occupying these properties." "Yet, legally these properties continue to be under the ownership of the Government of India and the occupants have no claim of these properties. While the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) was formed to give free-hold rights to the owners, this has still remained a distant dream," the party said in a statement.

'Delhi Dialogue' is the initiative taken by AAP to engage with people of Delhi and prepare a "blue print" for the coming Assembly elections.

The party said despite forming different committees by the government to address the issue, the problem of these colonies remains unsolved.

"In 1958, the government had appointed a committee to investigate the problems of growth and existence of jhuggies in urban Delhi. During the next several years about 45 resettlement colonies were developed by DDA, established mostly during the 1970s.

"Many such committees, notifications, solutions and schemes have been constituted repeatedly but none of the problems of Delhi's resettlement colonies have ever been solved. This continues to affect at least 28 constituencies in Delhi," the statement added.
