The crisis within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ended on Wednesday with the party pacifying Kumar Vishwas and suspending Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan. Vishwas was made the party's in-charge for Rajasthan as the state heads to polls early next year.

The decision was taken during the party's Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting, a day after Vishwas threatened to quit the party over Khan's allegations against him of being a "BJP agent". "I thank my supporters for standing by me in these difficult times," Vishwas said as he emerged out of Kejriwal's residence after the meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

"I assure everyone that there will be no obstacle in our fight against corruption that started from Jantar Mantar, which brought us all together," he added.

Sisodia, too, confirmed that all was well. "Vishwas will be Rajasthan's party in-charge as the state goes to polls next year. Khan has been suspended from the party and a three-member disciplinary committee has been formed to look into the allegations levelled by him," Sisodia said.

"AAP will the contest assembly elections there (in Rajasthan) under his (Vishwas') leadership," he added.

Unfazed by his suspension, Khan stood by his statement against Vishwas. He, however, stated that his statement was a personal opinion. "I respect the party's decision. However, I stand by my statements against Vishwas," he said. Sisodia visited Khan's residence to personally convey to him the party's decision.

Khan had also stepped down from the PAC on Monday after the party leadership urged Kejriwal to expel him. Earlier on Tuesday, Vishwas had accused Khan of being a "mask" and acting at the behest of a "coterie" surrounding Kejriwal.

On Tuesday, Kejriwal and Sisodia Vishwas's place in Ghaziabad to reach a consensus with him. "Kejriwal is trying hard to keep the party together. He has somehow managed to handle the crisis as of now," an AAP official had then said.

On Wednesday, Kejriwal and senior party leader Sanjay Singh tweeted a picture of AAP leaders including Vishwas saying "AAP is united". Some party members believe that things are not yet resolved. "Lots of issues are yet to be resolved between Vishwas and the leadership," a senior party official said.

AND ANALYSIS

Kejriwal has somehow managed to avert crises within AAP but he has to do a lot more to keep the party together.
Khan's expulsion could divide the party into two factions. While, those who backed Vishwas are happy with the move, some are still unhappy with Vishwas over his comment, "Kejriwal surrounded by yes-sayers."
