AAP MLA and former Delhi minister Rakhi Birla ON Monday alleged that she was attacked by a BJP councillor who tried to disrupt a meeting she was holding. The party has also alleged that its volunteers, who were accomponying Birla, were assaulted by Sanjana Singh, the BJP councillor of ward number 45 (Rohini South) of North Delhi Municipal Corporation. According to Birla, who served as a Minister of Women and Child Development in the 49-day AAP government, the incident occured at around 12.15 pm when she was taking a round of ward no 45, which falls under her Mangolpuri constituency.

Singh attacked her and party volunteers when she was interacting with safai karmacharis, under the cleanliness drive announced by the party. "She (Sanjana) kept on arguing on what I was doing in her ward. Later, she along with her husband attacked us. One of our party volunteers, Ram Pratap Goyal was also injured in the assault and had to be admitted in the Ambedkar Hospital after suffering loss of three teeth," Bidlan said. AAP said the saffron party was growing "desperate" and "intolerant".

The BJP termed the allegations as baseless and said that it was AAP volunteers who first attacked Singh, her son and her husband. "We were undertaking cleanliness drive in our area when Birla, Goyal and some AAP volunteers reached my ward and started disturbing us. When we tried to stop them, they attacked us. I have also suffered injuries on my hand," Singh said.
She also refuted the allegations that Goyal's teeth fell off when he was attacked.

"Goyal was wearing artificial teeth. When he tried to bite my son, it fell off. I have also told the cops about this," Singh said. Both the parties have registered FIRs against each other. "Cross FIRs have been registered in this connection from both sides. We have recorded statements of both the parties and registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC. Further investigations are on," a senior police official said.
