Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Ashutosh on Thursday questioned the Narendra Modi- led government's sincerity against fighting corruption, while referring to the sudden removal of Sanjeev Chaturvedi, the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of AIIMS.

"The AIIMS incident has once again proved that the Narendra Modi Government is not sincere at all on fighting against corruption. The Chief Vigilance Officer who had tenure of four years, has been removed within two years. In order to prevent such a situation from happening, parliament's standing committee had intervened, and even the Prime Minister's Office of Dr. Manmohan Singh. It is this government after coming to power that has removed him. This itself proves that the Narendra Modi Government is hand-in glove with the corrupt and is working for their interests," Ashutosh told ANI.

The AAP leader also wondered if Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan could be behind the shunting out of the officer. "It is that officer about whom the ministry has heaped lavish praise for doing outstanding work. What else could be the reason behind removing an officer who has worked against corrupt officials, except that Dr. Harsh Vardhan who is the Health Minister could be having a vested interest and conniving with those who are corrupt to remove an officer holding a clean image," he added.

Chaturvedi is an officer of the Indian Forest Service and was on deputation from Haryana. His tenure as CVO, AIIMS, was to have lasted till June 2016. Media reports said that a joint secretary-level officer of the health ministry has taken charge as the CVO of AIIMS after Chaturvedi's removal from the post.
