“This is happening since the last few weeks but they are silent. There is not a single FIR against corruption in the last one month. In this way, the government cannot bring a corrupt-free nation,” said AAP leader Alka Lamba.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday protested in the national capital, demanding the resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, HRD Minister Smriti Irani and Maharashtra Women and Child Welfare Minister Pankaja Munde.
“This is happening since the last few weeks but they are silent. There is not a single FIR against corruption in the last one month. In this way, the government cannot bring a corrupt-free nation,” said AAP leader Alka Lamba.
The protest march is taking place from Jantar Mantar to the Parliament. Carrying banners which read that the four BJP leaders should step down from their respective posts, the protestors raised slogans against the government for not initiating any action against them.
Meanwhile, AAP workers scuffled with police personnel during the protest.
A day ago, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideologue K.N. Govindacharya said that instead of trying to give legal excuses, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) must take a principled stand on its leaders.
“The politics of morality cannot be expected of the opposition. This new government must show morality. Instead of trying to show legal excuses the government must take principled stand. Otherwise what is difference between opposition and the government?,” said KN Govindacharya.
The ruling BJP at the Centre has so far been defending Swaraj and Raje despite opposition demands that the duo be sacked for helping former IPL boss Lalit Modi.
Irani is under sharp criticism following a complaint that she misrepresented her educational qualifications in documents filed in different years with the Election Commission.
The Maharashtra Congress had earlier submitted a complaint to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) alleging violations in purchases made by the Women and Child Welfare Department. According to reports, Munde was alleged to have cleared purchases worth Rs. 206 crore on a single day in February through 24 government resolutions instead of inviting tenders.
