The AAP government has splurged crores to make "false claims and target the opposition" in its recent advertisement campaign to glorify its one-year rule, Congress leader Ajay Maken claimed in Delhi High Court on Thursday.

In an affidavit filed before a bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath, Maken alleged AAP government had violated the Government Advertisement Guidelines 2014, and various advertisement and advertorials published by them contained "false, incorrect and misleading information." "Hence, from a bare perusal of the above advertisements, it is abundantly clear that the Respondent No.2 (Delhi government) is splurging crores of rupees to make false claims, target the opposition and for self-glorification in order to hide its administrative failures and that the same is in absolute violation of the Government Advertisement Guidelines, 2014," the Delhi Congress chief claimed.

The matter is listed for hearing on April 27.

The affidavit was filed in the ongoing matter in which the Congress leader has sought to restrain the Arvind Kejriwal-led government from publishing or airing any advertisements and promotional campaign in and outside Delhi. He also alleged that in its February 25 reply, Delhi government had said that the one year anniversary campaign was only for four days which was over, but had "continued to publish and telecast advertisements and advertorials" for more than 20 days.

"The stand taken by the GNCTD before this court, in its reply, and the contrary actions thereafter, clearly amount to the offence of perjury, as provided under section 340 of CrPC and also amounts to a gross abuse of the legal proceedings," he claimed.

On February 25, the AAP government had refuted in the high court Maken's claim that they had indulged in "large scale wastage of taxpayers' money" on its political activities by launching the advertisement campaign.

Maken had earlier alleged that advertisements were published and aired in newspapers, TV channels and radio in and outside Delhi in violation of the guidelines and had sought appropriate action against concerned officials "for the large scale wastage of the taxpayers' money on political activities of the ruling party."

However, the Delhi government's Directorate of Information and Publicity, in its reply had said that "no huge chunk of public funds has been issued for radio and TV ads".
