Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Kumar Vishwas hit out at Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday for the turmoil in the party. Commenting on disqualification issue of AAP MLAs, Kumar Vishwas termed the incident unfortunate and sad. But he claimed that his suggestions in the past on the issue were ignored as "he was told its the CM's prerogative to appoint people" which forced him to keep quiet on this issue.

The Election Commission (EC) on Friday recommended to President Ram Nath Kovind that 20 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs be disqualified from the Delhi Assembly for holding an office of profit. According to the EC, the 20 MLAs had been functioning as parliamentary secretaries.

Kumar Vishwas was recently ignored for a Rajya Sabha seat by AAP. The poet-politician then gave vent to his ire against Kejriwal over being denied a Rajya Sabha ticket earlier this month. The Aam Aadmi Party also hit back at rebel leader Kumar Vishwas, alleging he was at the "centre" of conspiracies hatched to topple the Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi after the municipal polls. AAP's Delhi convenor Gopal Rai claimed that after the MCD polls in April last year, "there were attempts to bring down the government and Kumar Vishwas was the principal mover and at the centre of those conspiracies"

In the present AAP MLAs controversy, after EC’s recommendation, both BJP and Congress on Friday stated that Kejriwal should quit on moral grounds.

Earlier, in March 2015, the AAP government passed an amendment to the Delhi Members of Legislative Assembly (Removal of Disqualification) Act, 1997, to exempt the posts of parliamentary secretary from the definition of office of profit with retrospective effect.

But then-president Pranab Mukherjee refused to give assent, following which the appointments were set aside by the Delhi High Court in September 2016. The HC declared the appointments “illegal” since the order had been passed “without concurrence/approval of the Lt Governor.”

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday alleged that "political vendetta" is being carried out against the party. AAP took to Twitter to buttress its claim that "only Delhi was being targetted" while similar cases exist in other states and "Election commission has not taken similar action in those cases".
