Reacting to Aamir Khan's statement about intolerance, BJP MLA Satish Mahana from Kanpur, in Uttar Pradesh suggested that perhaps Aamir's wife Kiran Rao wanted to be strip-searched in an airport in America, reported NavBharat Times.  Perhaps, Mahana was referring to the incidents where people are strip-searched in airports to check if anyone is hiding any illegal substances.

Meanwhile, the BJP spokesman GVL Narsmiha Rao said "people of the country cutting across the entire spectrum felt offended by what Aamir Khan said a couple of days ago and the actor's statement today "covers a wider issue where he talks about his love for the country."

Rao said "people of the country cutting across the entire spectrum felt offended by what Aamir Khan had said a couple of days ago.....I wish he was more careful about the statement."

"Today, the youth of this country are in a positive frame of mind and they expect their national icons in any sphere of life to echo such positive sentiments...Presenting their own country in a negative light...certainly hurt the emotions of millions of people of this country," he added. At an event recently, Aamir Khan had said: “To complete my answer that there is a sense of fear more than there was earlier. I do feel there is a sense of insecurity. When I sit at home and talk to Kiran. (Wife) Kiran and I have lived all our lives in India. For the first time, she said, should we move out of India? That’s a disastrous and big statement for Kiran to make to me. She fears for her child. She fears about what the atmosphere around us will be. She feels scared to open the newspapers every day. That does indicate that there is a sense of growing disquiet… growing sense of despondency. You feel depressed, you feel low, why is it happening? This feeling exists in me too.”

Responding to the criticism, Aamir Khan categorically ruled out leaving the nation. He said in a statement: “First let me state categorically that neither I, nor my wife Kiran have any intention of leaving the country. We never did, and nor would we like to in the future. Anyone implying the opposite has either not seen my interview or is deliberately trying to distort what I have said. India is my country, I love it, I feel fortunate for being born here, and this is where I am staying," he said. (Read: Aamir says those shouting obscenities are proving his point)
