Aam Aadmi Party leaders should go back to classrooms and learn Constitution: Subramanian Swamy

With the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accusing the ruling party at the Centre of shying away from polls in Delhi, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Sunday said the leaders of Arvind Kejriwal-led party should go back to their classrooms and learn the Constitution as it is the Election Commission that takes a final call on conducting elections and not the government.

"The Election Commission decides when to hold a poll or not to hold a poll. They don't go by the government decision. The Election Commission is a constitutional body; AAP people don't know the Constitution. So, the best thing for them is to go back to their classrooms and learn the Constitution," Swamy told ANI here.

"The house is not dissolved, BJP cannot dissolve the house. The house has to be dissolved by the Lieutenant Governor and he is not a BJP man, he was appointed by the previous government," he added.

The Aam Aadmi Party had earlier said the announcement of by-polls in Delhi clearly indicated that the BJP was 'scared' to dissolve the assembly and conduct fresh elections.

Earlier on Saturday, the Election Commission announced by-polls in three assembly seats in Delhi. The by-polls to three assembly seats in Delhi, which fell vacant after their MLAs resigned following their victories in the Lok Sabha elections, will be held on November 25.

Delhi has been under President's rule since Kejriwal resigned as the Chief Minister on February 14 after being in office for 49 days.

The BJP won 31 seats in the 70-member house while the AAP emerged victorious in 28 seats in the Delhi Assembly polls held last year.
