After the Supreme Court (SC) rap to Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee for challenging the Constitutional validity of Aadhaar on Monday, BJP's own Subramanian Swamy, on Tuesday, called making Aadhaar card mandatory a "threat to national security".

Swamy tweeted: "I am writing to PM detailing how compulsory Aadhaar is a threat to our national security. SC will I am sure strike it down." This came just a day after SC said it will start hearing a bunch of petitions challenging the Centre's move to make the Aadhaar Card mandatory for to avail benefits of government welfare schemes.

Earlier on October 25, the Centre had informed the SC that it had decided to extend the deadline for mandatory linking of Aadhaar to avail benefits of various government schemes till March 31, 2018. The Centre told the SC that the extension of the deadline from December end this year would apply to only those people who did not have an Aadhaar Card but were willing to enroll.
