Aadhaar card generated for 88 per cent population in Punjab

 The Punjab government has generated over 2.43 crore Aadhaar cards, which is 87.95 per cent of the population of the state, an official said here on Sunday.

As many as 2,43,66,399 UID/Aadhar cards have been generated as on July 15, 2014, said Parminder Pal Singh Sandhu, Registrar UID-cum-Joint Secretary, Food and Civil Supplies Department, Punjab, said. Similarly, of the total population of 2,77,04,236 of Punjab (2011 Census), 93.32 per cent, which is 2,58,53,902 citizens, have enrolled for Aadhaar cards, Sandhu said. The Nodal Officer for the project in Punjab, Sandhu said approximately 200 enrolment stations were operational in the state where Aadhaar card-generating machines have been installed.

Besides, there are Permanent UID Enrolment Machines across all Suwidha Centres/SDM offices in the state for providing Aadhaar-related services to the residents. "With Aadhaar enrolments nearing completion in Punjab, the state is moving towards delivering services associated with Aadhaar," he added.
