French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte visited the world-famous Moghul monument Taj Mahal in Agra on Sunday and spent about an hour there.

Earlier, the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Dinesh Sharma and Agra Mayor Naveen Jain welcomed the French President, his wife and delegates at the Agra Airport. Before visiting Taj Mahal, artists at Shilpgram presented Mayur Dance to welcome the French couple. The French President returned welcome greetings with ‘Namaste’ and tried his hands on beating the drum too.

The French President and his wife spent about an hour at the white-marbled monument and clicked pictures at Diana Bench and other different locations at the Taj Mahal. Both praised the beauty of the magnificent monument.

Unprecedented security arrangements were made ahead of their visit in and around Taj Mahal and from Airport to the Shilpgram. The Taj Mahal was closed for public view from 4 pm till the departure of the French dignitaries for security reasons.

But despite tight security arrangements, a big beehive at the entrance of the Royal Gate at Taj Mahal fell off ahead of Macron’s visit causing panic and chaos among visitors. Within minutes, thousands bees started hovering around the area.

The security men vacated the area not before a few tourists complained of bee bites. Panic-ridden Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) officials called in experts to remove the huge beehive and disinfected the entire area to fly off bees before the visit of the French President.

Earlier in the day, Macron lauded the efforts of India, along with other nations, for making International Solar Alliance (ISA) a reality.

However, Macron did not name Trump at the founding conference of ISA in the capital today. While hailing the 'Solar Mamas', a group of women solar engineers, he also referred to the countries which decided to leave the climate agreement.

Addressing the summit in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Macron said, "Mr Prime Minister, You made a dream and we did it. It was about this International Solar Alliance. It was two years ago, it was just an idea at that time and we decided all together to act very quickly and today a big change".
