92 talukas, North Gujarat receive heavy rains

Several parts of North Gujarat, which did not receive any rain till Friday, recorded a downpour on Saturday. Also, ninety-two tehsils of this region received almost 51.53% of the average annual rainfall over the last 24 hours.

South Gujarat received maximum rainfall this year with 67.53% of the annual count. The state is likely to receive rains for another two or three days. Saurashtra received 58.55% rains, followed by central Gujarat with 38.03%, North Gujarat with 27.48%, and Kutch the least with 11.08% rainfall.

Umarpada taluka of Surat district, with 316 mm rainfall, recorded the highest mark over the last 24 hours. Sagbara taluka of Narmada district came second with 177mm. Mangrol, Hansot, Netrang, Ankleshwar, Anand, Himmatnagar, Dhansura and Dahod tehsils received 100 to 150mm rainfall during the same period.

As many as 17 tehsils received more than 50mm rainfall, while 51 tehsils received 25mm rainfall. The rains over the last two days brought relief to farmers as the sowing season have just begun. Surendranagar district, however, has not received sufficient rainfall.

Warning Bells

The Met department forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in north Gujarat region over the next five days. The department has also said that south Gujarat would also receive heavy rainfall during the same period.
