An eight-year-old girl set herself ablaze at her residence in Bhagwatipara area of Rajkot city on Tuesday morning. Her dying declaration points at exam fear as the reason behind her extreme step. She was a class III student of a local government school

"Hiral Ganadiya set herself ablaze at her house in Nandnagar on Tuesday morning," said Rajkot police's B-division PSI PB Ramanuj. Hiral was a student of the Government School No. 100 located near Sukhsagar Hall in Bhagwatipara area of the city. Her parents, Manubhai and Bhavnaben, are farm labourers. The incident took place when they were out on work, said Ramanuj.

Hiral was found in a severely burnt state by her mother when she returned home around 11 am. She immediately informed her husband who was working in a farm close by. The girl was rushed to the civil hospital in a 108 ambulance.

Hiral succumbed to her injuries during treatment around 3 pm. In her dying declaration, the girl told the police that she was afraid of taking her exams which were to begin on April 9

Hiral was the youngest of four siblings. She has two brothers and a sister. In their statement, the parents said that Hiral did not like to study and often avoided going to school on one pretext or the other. Police have registered a case of accidental death under Cr PC 147.

PSI PB Ramanuj said he had questioned the family's neighbours but sensed no foul play in the incident. "One of their neighbours, Raziaben Pinzara, said she had spotted Hiral playing near her home, wearing school uniform at around 10:30 am," Ramanuj said.
