Nearly 75 cases of violation of Bombay High Court's order banning the use of disc jockeys (DJs) and dolby sound systems during Ganapati immersions, were reported this year.

Pune Police will now be filing cases against these mandals and DJ operators under the Environment Protection Rules and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Following the High Court order, Pune Police had issued notices to the mandals asking them to refrain from using DJs during immersion processions. Many mandals were not in favour of the ban and some of them were eventually caught using DJs during processions that lasted for more than 24 hours.

While the police focused more on the mandals carrying out processions at the heart of the city, many cases of violation were also reported in the outskirts. At some places the police seized the DJs on the spot, at other places they recorded the procession on camera for evidence. Joint Commissioner of Police Shivaji Bodkhe said, "We had appealed to all the mandals to not use DJs, but a lot of them flouted the orders. We had deployed our teams in different parts of the city who have taken note of all such truant mandals; action will be taken against them."

According to police, a total of 75 cases of violation of the High Court order were reported in Pune city limits. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shirish Sardeshpande said, "We have seized instruments like sound mixers of 33 DJs. As per provisions of the Environment Pollution Act, we will be summoning concerned persons and based on reports cases will be filed in the court."

Cases will be filed both against the office bearers of the mandals and the DJs.
