#1 Averments made against CBI chief Ranjit Sinha are serious, says Supreme Court; seeks reply within a week
Supreme Court asks CBI director Ranjit Sinha to file within a week his response on the allegations levelled against him in an application. "Whatever you want to tell us, tell us in black and white," SC stated to the Sinha. "Averments made against CBI director are serious and he cannot say that he won't file affidavit." CBI director agrees to file affidavit in a sealed envelope. SC takes original register of entry list at CBI director's residence after it was handed over by advocate Prashant Bhushan in a sealed envelope. Sinha has asked SC to tell Bhushan to declare the source from which he got all the documents.  SC has also taken on record names of 23 ITBP and 4 CBI officials who were on duty at the gate of CBI Director's residence. Read more

Flood situation has worsened in Jammu and Kashmir as more areas have submerged in the waters leaving a trail of death and destruction. With seven more deaths, the toll in the devastating floods have reached to 138. Thousands of families are still stranded and awaiting help in their homes across the valley. South Kashmir districts are the worst hit by the catastrophe with many areas still cut off from the headquarters. Over 30 per cent of capital Srinagar city is under flood waters. Over 10 lakh population is affected in Jammu division. Jammu city has been cut off from Pathankote after authorities closed down the three important bridges on Tawi. The fourth bridge on Tawi has been damaged due to gushing waters. Indian army has pressed 103 columns into service to help in rescue and relief of the people affected by the worst ever floods in Jammu and Kashmir. A total of 11,000 civilians have been rescued so far. Out of these 2000 civilians have been provided food and temporary shelters. Read more

#6 Supreme Court stays Nithari Killer Surinder Koli's execution for seven days
Execution of Nithari serial killer Surinder Koli, who was to be hanged on September 12 has now been withheld for seven days after the Supreme Court put a stay order on midnight. The bench comprising justices H L Dattu and A R Dave stayed the execution for a period of one week. An official of the apex court said that the plea in this regard was mentioned before the bench after midnight and the order was passed at 1:40 AM. Read more
