The occasion of Guru Purnima is celebrated to pay respect to our mentors.
During the ancient times, students used to get education at the ashrams of Gurus (teachers) and the teachers wouldn't charge any fee for the same. When a student's education got over, he would give (Guru Dakshina) something as a token of appreciation and gratitude, as per his capacity to his mentor. This day is celebrated widely in the country as Guru Purnima.
Guru Purnima this year will be celebrated on July 19.
