67 candidates in fray in Thane district

As the deadline for withdrawal of nominations expired this evening, 67 candidates remained in the fray for the four Lok Sabha constituencies in the district, namely, Thane, Kalyan, Bhiwandi and Palghar, which would see polling on April 24.

Deputy District Election Officer Madhavi Sardeshmukh told the reporters that as the time for withdrawing ended, there were 10 candidates left in the Palghar, 13 in Bhiwandi, 18 in Kalyan and 26 in the Thane.

A total of 72.70 lakh voters will exercise franchise in across the four constituencies.

Ahead of the elections, as a preventive measure, 2,720 non-bailable warrents were issued in the district and cash totaling Rs 8.36 lakh was seized.

Liquor worth Rs. 44.62 lakhs has been seized in the district.

A total of 24 offences of violation of model code have been registered.
