As the fog began to recede on Saturday morning, chill began to set in. By evening, Indoreans were seen all covered up in their warm clothing as cold winds began to blow in the region.

Indore recorded maximum temperature of 17.9 degrees Celsius, lowest in the last seven years.
The minimum temperature too recorded a  significant drop with mercury touching 6.7 degree Celsius.

The drop in the temperature, which continued as the night fell, saw city residents rush back to their homes earlier than usual.

According to meteorological department, sudden fall in daytime temperature in Indore, Bhopal and neighbouring areas occurred due to disturbance in upper air cyclonic circulation.

“Only the daytime temperature has fallen in these areas on account of western disturbance of the upper air cyclonic circulation,” said local met officer U K Pandey.

He said this cyclonic circulation led to increased moisture content in the air which was preventing adequate heating of the surface due to which temperature dropped and weather turned cloudy.
The temperature is likely to remain more or less same on Sunday too. In the morning, the dense fog led to delay in arrival of several trains and flights to the city. The flights arriving from Mumbai and Delhi were diverted to Ahmedabad and a flight scheduled to Pune had to be cancelled on account of bad weather. The landing of flights in Indore was permitted only after 10 am and the visibility return to normal post noon.  Three flights of Jet airways were delayed in evening when the fog reappeared. Besides planes, 19 long and short distance trains were also delayed due to fog.
