Earlier, a lifeguard has been arrested on the charge of raping a three-and-half-year-old girl on the premises of a private school in Greater Noida. The alleged crime was committed on Thursday and a case was registered on Friday after a complaint from the child's parents.

The police arrested the suspect after the child gave enough hints about his involvement. He allegedly sexually assaulted her when nursery students were taken to the school's pool to be taught swimming.

"After coming home, she complained of severe pain in the lower abdomen. Her parents took her to a private hospital where doctors confirmed sexual assault. Their report said her hymen was torn," said Manoj Pant of Surajpur police.

The police said the toddler managed to tell her parents about the accused and she started screaming loudly pointing towards the lifeguard when she was taken to the school.

"Upon being examined, the doctors have confirmed injury in the private part of the victim which clearly shows sexual assault. The accused has been arrested and an FIR under IPC section 376 (Rape) and 7/8 of the Protection of Child from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) has been registered in Surajpur police station" added Pant.

If convicted under the stringent POCSO, the lifeguard faces a minimum 10 years in jail.
