Indian Army foiled two major infiltration bids and killed five terrorists in Uri and Tanghdar sectors on Monday even as around 70 trained terrorists are waiting on the launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC) to be pushed into this side of North Kashmir.

The first infiltration bid was foiled in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district when Army noticed some suspicious movement along the LoC. Troops immediately cordoned off the area and challenged the terrorists. However, the troops came under heavy fire which was immediately retaliated. In the initial firefight one terrorist was killed and later two more were eliminated.

"Infiltration bid has been eliminated in the Tangdhar Sector. Three terrorists were killed so far and weapons recovered. Search operations continue," said Colonel Rajesh Kalia, Defence spokesman at Srinagar.

The second infiltration bid was foiled on the LoC in Rampur Sector of Uri in Baramulla district. "Two terrorists killed, two weapons recovered. Search operations still ongoing," said Colonel Kalia.

This is the third major infiltration bid to have foiled in the Uri sector in the last 10 days. Army thwarted Uri-type fidayeen attack when they intercepted and killed four newly infiltrated terrorists before they could unleash mayhem in Kalgai village of the Uri sector along the Line of Control (LoC) on the night of September 23.

Three days later, Indian Army dealt a major blow to Hizbul Mujahideen after they killed one of the longest surviving terrorists Abdul Qayoom Najar when he was trying to sneak into the valley from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) from Lachipora in Uri sector.

On September 26, Indian Army repulsed Pakistani Border Action Team (BAT) strike on their post and forced the attackers to beat the hasty retreat on the Line of Control (LOC) in the Keran sector of North Kashmir's Kupwara district.

The infiltration bid was foiled on the day top Army commander said around 70 terrorists are waiting on the terror launch pads across to sneak into the valley.

"Around 60 to 70 terrorists are waiting on the launch pads for infiltration," said Major General RP Kalita, General Officer Commanding 19 Division.
