5 militants killed in two separate encounters in Kashmir

While four terrorists were killed in a gunfight in Budgam, another was killed in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, security forces said.

Five militants were killed in two separate encounters in Kashmir Valley on Thursday, security forces said. While four terrorists were killed in a  gunfight in Budgam district, another was killed in Baramulla area. 

A para commando of the Indian Army was also injured.

Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that four terrorists were killed in a gunfight with security forces at Budgam's Fultipora village.

Another gunfight erupted in north Kashmir Sagipora village of Sopore area in Baramulla where the police said one militant was killed while a para commando of the army was injured.

"The operation against militants in Sagipora village is still on," police said.

Following specific information about the presence of militants at Futlipora, the security forces had surrounded the village in Pakherpora area of Budgam district in the morning.

"As the security forces closed in on the hiding militants, the security forces were fired upon triggering the encounter," a police officer said.

A teenager, identified as Sinar Ahmad, 15,  was injured when a mob clashed with the army in Pakherpora Chowk. He was shifted to a hospital in Srinagar.

Meanwhile, authorities today said that the government forces, in 2017, have killed more than 200 militants in the state including around 82 locals, which is highest in the past decade. 

“Today by the collective effort of J&K police, Indian Army, CAPF and people of Kashmir have lead to neutralization of more than 200 terrorists in the year of 2017 alone. This marks a huge landmark for establishing peace and stability in the state of J&K and our country,” Director General of J&K police S P Vaid tweeted.
