Two days after Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that Pakistan would have to pay for any misadventure, the Indian Army revealed that more than 400 terrorists are waiting across the Line of Control (LoC) to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir.

"Their (terrorists) number never decreases. There are training camps and launch pads from where they are pushed. If you see south of Pir Panjal, there are 185 to 220 terrorists and in the north there are 195-220 terrorists. Once they are pushed and we eliminate them, they get replenishment," said Lieutenant General Devraj Anbu, General Officer Commanding in Chief (GOC-in-C) of Northern Command.

The Northern Army Commander said that their endeavour is to ensure zero infiltration, but adversary always looks for the ways and means to beat the system.

"So we continue to review our deployment, number of people and other means to pick them up. We try to eliminate them. Considerable amount of reduction has taken place. Number of attempts (of infiltration) in 2017 is almost double than 2016. When you double the attempts, the probability of getting in is more. That is one reason that we have eliminated more," he said

Lieutenant General Anbu said attempt (of enemy) is to keep things boiling. "After Burhan Wani's incident, the violence was palpable in 2017. But because of robust counter-infiltration, we were able to stop it," he said.

Lieutenant General Anbu said that Hizbul Mujhadeen, Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) are now working together. "There is no differentiation; they keep jumping from one outfit to other. Anyone who picks up arms and is against the state, is a terrorist and we will deal with him," he said.
