4 more killed in Pak shelling, thousands move to safe areas

Thousands fled homes as four more people, including an Army soldier and a boy, were killed and 20 others injured in fresh Pakistani shelling along the LoC and the IB in Jammu division on Saturday. The death toll in the latest border flare-up since Wednesday night has climbed to 10.

Borders in Jammu are witnessing a battle-like situation with authorities shutting hundreds of schools in the five km range of the LoC and the IB.

Nearly 700 people living near the borders in the RS Pura sector have been evacuated, while 211 persons from Ramgarh and 160 persons from Hiranagar have also been moved to secure zones.

The Army has retaliated strongly and effectively to the firing in which Sepoy Mandeep Singh died. Hailing from Village Alampur in Punjab's Sangroor district, Singh, 23, is survived by his father Gurnaam Singh.
