As the Keran operation entered into 13th day on Sunday, the Indian army came out to reassure the nation that they are fully geared up for all eventualities
“An effective cordon is in place, with complete control and domination in the area. Extensive searches to neutralise the terrorists are currently on. With additional inputs coming in, we are completely geared for all eventualities,” Colonel Sanjay Mitra, officiating brigadier general staff (BGS) of 15 corps told reporters.
Colonel Mitra said it was a massive infiltration cum BAT (Border Action Team of Pakistan) attempt in the area of Shala Bhata, in which 30-40 terrorists contacted the anti-infiltration fence near the Line of Control at multiple points to get across. “Heavy exchange of fire thereafter has taken place over several days,” he said. Officiating BGS said the area of operations is at the high altitude with heights ranging from 10,000 – 12,000 feet coupled with thickly forested steep slopes, deep ravines and crevasses.
“Operations conducted have hence been deliberate and controlled,” he said.
According to army there has been four attempts of infiltration in Keran sector since September 23, when one terrorist was killed at Lashdat Nar and arms and ammunition were recovered.
“There have been two other infiltration bids thereafter in the same sector in a span of 24 hours. In the first attempt on October 4 three terrorists were killed in Gujjardur area while in the second attempt by terrorists to infiltrate in the area of Fateh Gali on October four hardcore terrorists were killed,” he said.
Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra, general officer commanding in chief (GoC-in-C) Northern Command and Lt Gen Gurmit Singh, GOC 15 Corps have visited the area to review the situation on ground.
