3500 feral dogs get sterilised in Jammu

To contain the adverse impact of burgeoning wild dog population in Jammu, the city Municipal Corporation has conducted sterilisation and immunisation of 3500 feral dogs here, an official said.

"Till date more than 3500 stray dogs have been sterilised and immunised wardwise in Jammu city and the programme is gathering pace due to utilisation of additional infrastructure and staff," Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Commissioner, M Raju said here.

The JMC will organise awareness camps as well as anti- rabies and anti-scabies camps in the areas falling within the municipal limits, he said.

The commissioner has also given directions that raids should be conducted on bird sellers and pet breeders who are running their businesses illegally.

Officials said that a team of officials confiscated several birds after a raid.

According to Raju, no advertisements of sale of birds from any such selling unit shall be allowed within the JMC limits.
