The Pakistan Army opened unprovoked fire on Indian forward positions along the Line of Control (LoC), killing a soldier in the Rajouri sector of Jammu on Saturday. Defence spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta, said the Pakistan Army violated the ceasefire at 1.30 pm.

This comes on a day when security forces neutralised three Jaish-e-Mohammad ultras in Tral forests, even as the Indian Army admitted that the recent Amarnath Yatra attack was one (of) reversal but vowed to eliminate the terrorists in a bid to bring about peace in the valley.

At Rajouri, the Army retaliated strongly. "In the exchange of fire, Lance Naik Mohammed Naseer succumbed to his injuries," said Lieutenant Colonel Mehta. Hailing from Ajout village in Poonch district, Jammu, the 35-year-old is survived by his wife Wasim Akhtar.

In a separate incident, three terrorists were killed by security forces at Tral's Satoora forest area in south Kashmir's Pulwama district.

Acting on a tip off, a joint column of Rashtriya Riffles, CRPF and J&K police launched cordon and search operation in the wee hours of Saturday. "I am sure we will continue eliminating the terrorists who are moving around in this area," said Lieutenant General JS Sandhu, general officer commanding (GOC) 15 corps.

In another major breakthrough, the police caught two youth red handed after they hurled a grenade on the CRPF party on Saturday afternoon, injuring one assistant sub-inspector at Laroo in Kulgam district in South Kashmir.
