3 terrorists, 1 soldier killed in two south Kashmir encounters

Continuing their relentless anti terror operations, security forces killed three more militants in two different encounters in the troubled south Kashmir region. An army soldier was also killed while two anti-terror sustained injuries in one of the operations.

Police said, based on inputs about the presence of terrorists in Redwani area of Kulgam district, a cordon and search operation was launched at midnight jointly by police and security forces.

"As the operations were on, the terrorists fired at the search party. The forces retaliated, leading to a gunfight. in the ensuing encounter, two terrorists, Ajaz Ahmad Makroo and Waris Ahmad Malik, were gunned down," said a police spokesman.

"Both the slain terrorists were affiliated to Lashkar-e-Toeba and were wanted for their involvement in a series of terror crimes, including attacks on security establishments and civilian atrocities. Ajaz Makroo had a long history of terror crime, dating back to 2017. He was a close associate of terrorist commanders Naveed Jat and Azad Dada," said the spokesman.

Police said, "In the initial exchange of fire, one jawan of 1st Rashtriya Riffles sustained injuries. He was evacuated to the hospital, where he attained martyrdom. Two jawans of 163rd battalion of CRPF sustained minor injuries."

The martyr was identified as Sapper Prakash Jadhav. Hailing from Belgaum district of Karnataka, the 29-year-old soldier is survived by his wife Rani Prakash Jadhav.

In a separate encounter, a terrorist of Zakir Musa-led Ansar Gazwat-ul-Hind was killed in Hafoo Reshipora area of Tral in south Kashmir's Pulwama district. He was identified as Shakir Hassan Dar.

"He was involved in terror crimes from 2015 and was wanted for his complicity in a series of terror crimes including attacks on security establishments and civilian atrocities," added the police spokesman.
