Three members of a gang were arrested following a shootout with police in outer Delhi's Alipur area Wednesday morning, police said.

Manjit (23), Niteesh (20) and Mahesh (25) are members of the Tillu gang, they said.

The accused were wanted in the case of murder of a person, named Arman, who was a member of the rival Gogi Gang.

Arman was allegedly shot dead by the three men on August 20, police said.

On September 4, a trap was laid near Qutub Garh bus stop where Manjit had come to meet his associates. Subsequently, he was arrested and a country-made pistol and two live cartridges were seized from his possession, said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).

Based on the information extracted from Manjit, a trap was laid at the Budhpur Hiranki road and around 5.05 am, a white-colour scooter, coming from GT Karnal Road, was flagged down, the senior officer said.

He said two gang members, who were riding the scooter, tried to escape and when police chased them, they opened fire.

When the policemen fired back, one of them received injuries in his right leg while the other, Mahesh, was apprehended without injury, the officer added.

No police officer was injured as they were wearing bullet-proof jackets, he added.

The injured gangster was admitted to Raja Harishchandra Hospital.

During interrogation, the accused persons revealed that in order to establish supremacy in a long-standing gang war between Gogi and Tillu groups, both the gangs were recruiting new associates.

Manjit, Nitish and Mahesh joined Tillu gang while Arman joined Gogi gang. After killing Arman, the accused robbed a bike at gunpoint from Kundli area, said the DCP.

The accused have disclosed their involvement in cases of robbery and extortion, he said.
