A newly infiltrated group of fidayeen militants stormed into an abandoned army bunker near the International border (IB) and engaged the security forces in a fierce gunfight leaving three soldiers including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and four civilians dead in Arnia sector of Jammu division.

Were militants also killed?
Four militants were later gunned down by the security forces. Police sources said the militants had sneaked from the IB during the wee hours and crossed into the Pindi Khatar village, around two to three kilometres from the IB. They first changed the clothes near the pull and donned combat dresses to carry out the attack.

What about the timing of the attack?
The terror attack comes a day before prime minister Narendra Modi is starting second leg of campaigning in Jammu and Kashmir. Modi is addressing two rallies in Udhampur and Poonch of Jammu division on Friday. The attack also comes a day after Modi raised the 26/11 during SAARC summit and called upon the member nations to pledge to combat terror and transnational crimes.
