The CBI has charged 19 persons, including former telecom minister A Raja, in the multi-billion spectrum allocation scam.
The designated court hearing the multi-billion rupee 2G spectrum allocation scam must not pick and choose specific entities during trial, but address all issues in a rational manner, a lawyer representing one of the accused, Nira Radia, has said.
Advocate Vijay Aggarwal who is defending Radia, said: "In respect of Nira Radia, they wanted 62 conversation CDs to be placed on record to which I have objected to on grounds that they cannot pick and choose. They have to place the entire 5800 conversations on record. Moreover, the income tax department has given it to them on a USB drive. So, how can they pick it out in a CD and then give it. The law does not permit that. They cannot pick and choose."
Earlier on Thursday, three applications were listed in the court. They pertained to Nira Radia, Nitin Jain, Anil and Tina Ambani.
The court has set another date for the hearing of the Nira Radia case, while it has reserved its order in the case involving Nitin Jain. In the case featuring Tina Ambani, the concerned counsels were not available and this forced the court to put the matter on record.
Aggarwal has also opposed the prosecution's action that conversation records in 2010 be placed on record in 2013.
In the Nitin Jain case, he pointed out to the court that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) itself had conceded the prosecution's stand as inconsistent, and therefore, further questioning was not permissible as per the Supreme Court's order.
The CBI has charged 19 persons, including former telecom minister A Raja, in the multi-billion spectrum allocation scam.
The Supreme Court had cancelled more than 120 licenses issued by Raja after finding massive irregularities in it.
