A 28-year-old cabin crew of Etihad Airways has accused a man of sexually assaulting her on multiple occasions after promising to marry her, and sending obscene photographs and videos of hers to her colleagues in the capital. The police have identified the accused and are carrying out raids at various places. They have also issued lookout notices against the accused because the victim, in her complaint, has said that the man holds the passports of two countries, India and Australia.

Police sources said that the accused, identified as Abhishek Rana, is absconding and a team has been sent to Uttar Pradesh to nab him. The victim said in the complaint that she had first met Rana when he was travelling to Germany on business in April 2015. “He started talking to her after the two exchanged numbers. The accused also visited her in Abu Dhabi, where she had bought expensive gifts for him and also paid for his flight tickets,” the police said.

The sources added that the victim visited Agra to meet Rana and his mother in 2016. She then went to Delhi with him. There, he took her to a five-star hotel in Kalkaji and started a physical relationship with her. The accused went on to sexually exploit the woman on many occasions on the pretext of marrying her, the victim said.

She added that when she investigated Rana’s antecedents, she was shocked to find out that he was already married to someone else, and realised that he had been sexually exploiting her. She was also shocked to find out that he had cheated on many other women in a similar manner earlier, and that he had obscene videos of her in his possession.

“After the woman confronted him, he started extorting money from her and blackmailing her saying that if she did not fulfil his desires, he would send nude photographs and videos of her to her employers and colleagues, apart from uploading the same on the internet,” said a senior police officer.

He added that Rana also took the victim’s debit card from her and raped her. Then, when the woman finally stopped succumbing to his demands in February this year, the accused sent the obscene videos to her colleagues. “He also uploaded them on social media sites,” the complaint stated.
