26 people saved from Latur flood

The situation in Latur has finally come under control after the NDRF rescued 26 people trapped in the flash flood in Latur due to heavy rainfall in the last two days. CM Devendra Fadnavis says that the Government is monitoring the situation and is making every possible effort to return life to normal to the tourist hub.
Marathwada which had been hit by a terrible drought has been receiving heavy rainfalls for the past one week which has resulted in water logging in the neighbouring regions.

The state Government has asked the NDRF to keep a team ready at Beed, Nanded and Latur for precautionary measures. The IAF choppers which were not required to be deployed on Friday evening, the time of the flash flood, are kept ready at Bidar for emergency.

NDRF teams were called for rescue and relief operations on Saturday after almost 200 people were caught in the flood from Ahmedpur Taluka, Selu Jevadga village in Renapur, Beed district. Another 125 people were stranded in the Belsangvi village in Jalkot Taluka.

In addition to NDRF, the Indian Air Force choppers were also deployed in some parts for rescue and relief operations. The choppers could not take off since the light was insufficient. Suhas Divse, the in-charge of state disaster management unit at Mantralaya has said that there is no one stranded anymore. A total of 1265 persons were evacuated by the district administration.
