Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre is committed to the fulfilment of providing 24x7 power to every Indian by 2019.

"Affordable, adequate and high-quality 24x7 power to every home in the country for every industry - small scale, medium scale, for every shops (small or big) how we can make India diesel-generator free was the theme of the second conference that we have had after the new government came in the country. After this two-day conference, I am doubly convinced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision and his mission to provide 24x7 power to every Indian will be fulfilled by 2019," Goyal said at a media briefing after the conclusion of the two-day conference of Power, Renewable Energy and Mines.

"The government is committed to the welfare of the people of the northeast. Providing uninterrupted electricity to the people of the northeast is the shared responsibility of the Centre and the state government," he added.

Goyal further said that Power Ministers' conference was for the first time held outside the national capital with an objective to make the northeast an integral part of the country's development in the power sector.

"Holding a meeting in Guwahati for the first time outside Delhi is significant because we want to send the message of oneness between the northeast and the rest of the country. We want to reach out to people, rather than people coming to Delhi. We have decided to hold such conferences in different zones of the country. This attempt strengthens our cooperative federalism," said Goyal.
