Bihar on Wednesday witnessed multiple political realignments with four Congress MLCs, including an ex-state chief, switching over CM Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United), minutes after they were suspended from the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC).

The MLCs - Ashok Choudhary, Dilip Choudhary, Tanvir Akhtar and Ramchandra Bharti - held a joint presser late on Wednesday evening to confirm the announcement, putting at rest months of speculations of factionalism in Bihar Congress.

“For the last several months, we have been insulted in the Congress party. Party’s Bihar in charge C P Joshi has been at it because he wanted to install his favorite as the BPCC President,” said Ashok Choudhary, who was sacked by the Congress supremo as the BPCC President following reports of him cosying up to the JD (U).

Terming Nitish an ideal leader, Choudhary said the four of them were joining JD (U) but many more were to follow. “We talked to Nitish ji and he requested our accept. We have made no demands. We will be happy to contribute as party workers, if Nitish ji deems it it,” said Choudhary, a Congress member for the last 25 years.

Not mincing words, Choudhary said he felt like a “use and throw” in the Congress. “Rahul Gandhi is one of the finest persons I have met in the political fraternity but the others surrounding him do not want the party to grow. They should contemplate why the Grand Old Party is at this position today. Why loyal party workers are suddenly sidelined,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the four MLCs had submitted their request to quirt Congress and sit separately in Bihar Vidhan Parishad to chairman Harun Rashid. “We sent our letter to the chairman at 5pm, then how can the party suspend us at 8pm. Kaukab Quadri (BPCC President in charge) should display some political maturity,” Choudhary said.
