Twenty-three Bangladeshis were arrested from Melaghar in Sipahijala district for entering India allegedly without valid documents, police said on Sunday.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided the house of one Kurban Ali at Melaghar and arrested 23 Bangladeshis for entering India without passport on Saturday, a police official said.

On interrogation, it was known that they had entered Melaghar from neighbouring Comilla district of Bangladesh in search of jobs and they were likely to go to Kashmir to work as domestic helps.

Two Indians, including one from Jammu and Kashmir, were also arrested for helping them in their illegal entry, he said. A local court remanded them to three days jail custody.
