2 terrorists killed in J&K encounter

Security forces on Tuesday dealt another blow to terrorists when they killed two top ultras in an encounter in Sopore. Over the last five days, around 13 militants have been killed by security forces across Kashmir.

Police said that based on credible inputs about the presence of terrorists at Nowpura area of Tujjer Sharif over the preceding night, the police and security forces jointly launched a search operation.

"During the searches, hidden terrorists fired on the search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, two terrorists were eliminated. The identity of the killed terrorists is being ascertained," said a police spokesman.

Police said that some arms, ammunition and incriminating material has been recovered from the site of encounter. The police has also registered a case in this regard and an investigation has been initiated.

This is the fourth major anti terror and counter infiltration operation in the valley over the last five days. On September 21, security forces dealt a major blow to Lashkar-e-Taiba in north Kashmir when they killed five infiltrated terrorists in the two-day long anti-terror operation in Sukhba area of Bandipora district.
