A road accident has become a new bone of contention between the CRPF and the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police.

Nineteen CRPF men were injured, one of them seriously, when their vehicle turned turtle near Bemina in the outskirts of Srinagar on Sunday morning. While the CRPF claimed that the driver lost control after a mob of stone-pelters attacked the vehicle, the J&K police said there was no stone-pelting in the area at the time.

Inspector General of CRPF, Srinagar Sector, Ravideep Sahi said the accident occurred around 5 am. "Around 5 to 10 people threw stones on the our vehicle, causing the driver to lose control," he said.

All the injured were shifted to a hospital from where some of them were referred to the Army hospital. The seriously injured CRPF trooper was airlifted to Delhi.

Refuting the CRPF claims, the police said CCTV footage from nearby areas showed there was no stone-pelting when the accident happened.

This is not the first time differences of opinion have surfaced between the two forces. CRPF figures recently revealed there have been 21 incidents of stone-pelting in the first three days of Ramzan ceasefire in which three of its personnel were injured. Police figures, however, said there have been only six incidents in the first five days of ceasefire.
