Kota: An eighteen-year-old medical aspirant from Barmer district committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan on Thursday morning. The student lived in a paying guest accommodation in Vikas Nagar area under Kunhari police station of Kota.

The boy, before committing suicide made a video call to his fiancée in Barmer informing her about his decision to take the extreme step following which she called his father, who immediately called the PG owner, Devkinandan Sharma, but by the time he could reach the boy’s room, he had hanged himself.

The boy has been identified as Karan Kumar, a resident of Sindhadi village in Barmer district, said Meera Baniwal sub inspector at Kunahari police station and investigating officer of the case. The boy was a class 12 student and had been taking coaching since one year in a primer coaching institute of the city to crack the NEET for admission in medical college, said Baniwal.

The boy was rushed to Maharao Bhim Singh (MBS) Hospital where the doctors on duty declared him brought dead, said Beniwal.

The reason behind the extreme step taken by the boy is yet to be ascertained as no suicide note was recovered from his room, she added.

Primary investigation suggests that the boy was not under stress, however, the exact reason of suicide could be known only after the investigation is over, the SI said.

The body was handed over to the family members after postmortem on Thursday afternoon who had reached Kota from Barmer, said Atar Singh in charge of Kunhari police station.
